Buyukcekmece Ataturk Anadolu Lisesi

Our school, which accepts students according to the high school entrance exam results, is located in the centre of Buyukcekmece in Istanbul which is on the European side. It started education in 2009. Our school, which has about 650 students with 42 qualified and ambitious teachers, is one of the best and preferred schools in the region. Also it is defined as a project school, different from other school types because it’s tasked to produce, take part in both national and international projects which can be related to any subjects or issues like Science, Literature, Maths, Geography, Social Sciences, Foreign Languages (English and German) etc.

Our students have come together and created a student council which works very actively. They make changes in school, take decisions on how to strengthen the school policy and students rights. They have lots of social clubs at school such as Chess, Sports and Mindfulness Clubs for a healthier life; EU Projects Clubs for developing international projects to empower the students’ academic and 21st century skills; and MUN Club for organising several different international events. There are TUBITAK (Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkiye) Club to conduct projects nationally and Entrepreneur Girls Club for conducting projects in the STEAM field aiming to raise girls’ interest in the field and to equip them with entrepreneurial skills. Moreover, we have a Unity in Values Club aiming to educate students to become active citizens with common values and an Activist Journalists Club where students publish monthly digital journals on world problems.

Our students, aged 15-18, come from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds and share a strong enthusiasm for learning, innovation, and global collaboration. They are open-minded, creative, and proactive, demonstrating adaptability in group work and problem-solving. Many of them are already engaged in extracurricular activities, including STEM clubs, entrepreneurship programs, and digital literacy initiatives.

They actively seek opportunities to broaden their perspectives, develop leadership skills, and enhance their digital and linguistic competencies. Their voluntary participation in international projects reflects their motivation to connect with peers from different countries, exchange knowledge, and contribute to meaningful social change.
